De Denne is the perfect stop over halfway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth travelling on the Route 62. Our Country Guest House is situated on a working ostrich and Alfalfa farm and offers tranquility, spectacular views and soul touching moments.

Sunsets you will never find elsewhere and hospitality to make you feel at home. All our suites enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding farmlands, majestic mountains and the luscious garden.

Our many activities include bird watching, scenic walks, stargazing, environmental and farm tours where you can experience the ostrich chicks hatching. Activities also available in the area to enjoy is the Sunrise Meerkat Tour, Cango Caves, feeding the elephants and visiting Highgate Ostrich Farm.

De Denne is perfectly situated for a day visit to the surrounding towns of Prince Albert, Mossel Bay, Calitzdorp (The Port Capital) and Knysna. Perfect for romantic getaways or family fun time, with modern amenities and olde-world charm.

YOUR HOSTS:

Johan and Louise Keller, owners of De Denne Country Guest House, are the 5^th generation of the Keller family to farm on De Denne Farm.  They have 4 children Helene-Mari, Pieter, Jeru and Aike.  Helene-Mari is a Teacher, Pieter is doing his final exams in SIMA Management Accounting, Aike just finished her studies at Isa Carstens and Jeru is busy with his IT degree.

Our olive trees have since it was planted 5 years ago never had any chemical treatment / fertiliser or anything like that. These trees are treated and fertilised with natural products like Epson salt, which is very good as an insecticide as well. The olive oil we use at De Denne are cold pressed olive oil from our own trees.

We have a veggie garden and most of the veggies this season came from that garden. Also no chemicals or fertiliser only plain used filter coffee, tea bags, chicken egg shells and banana peels all mixed together and used just like that in our garden… works like a dream.

You can also use it in your garden as well. Our amenities in our rooms are manufactured from Rooibos, and is very soft to be used use on any skin type. Even when cleaning our laundry (linen and towels) we use a mixture of washing powder, baking soda and coarse salt. And as softener we use vinegar. It leaves your linen and towels soft and fresh.

DELICIOUS LOCAL DISHES AND TREATS:

Louise always had a passion for cooking, being a little girl she spend quite some time with her grandma in the kitchen. She was the only grandchild allowed to be around while grandma was creating masterpiece wedding cakes. Quietly sitting and watching her grandma’s every move, she came to love the art of food.

Dreaming of having a place where guests can enjoy good food and good wine a restaurant was slowly established at De Denne. Living out a dream became a reality when she kept on feeling the need to name the restaurant and take it to higher levels. Literally one night in a dream the name Ma Belle was in her head, not knowing what it meant she googled it the next morning and was amazed by the meaning. It fitted what she had in mind perfectly, beautiful food – beautiful wine and beautiful views.

The kitchen staff are friendly local people who undergo high quality training. After all, cooking delicious food never reaches a know-it-all point…

Our BBQ Ostrich signature dish is very popular and something unique, our exclusively selected wines will compliment every dish on our enticing menu. Fresh vegetables & herbs from our garden add the little organic touch.

Come meet our Male Ostrich Cadbury, his wife Suzie, and their terribly cute chicks and tour the facilities from the feeding camps and hatchery, to the incubator rooms.

Our farm tours are lead by qualified and experienced guides ( English & German speaking). We’ll be touring in a comfortable, well-equipped, and fully air-conditioned vehicle.
