Our journey:

Once a sacred place inhabited by hunter-gatherers some 250 000 – 500 000 years ago, the site resonates with history. The heritage is of an old family home that once rang with children’s laughter, spirited mealtime banter and the patter of children’s feet along secret paths that led to neighbouring allies.

A place where childhood friendships were forged, and plots hatched. A place of freedom, discovery, and joy.

From this era sprung the owner’s abiding love for Northcliff, and where the desire to preserve and share it took root.

The birth of The Cliffside represents the culmination of this dream – the organic metamorphosis of a traditional family home into a more restful, contemporary, and uncluttered living space that exemplifies stylish simplicity. A welcoming home for guests from far and wide.

Our Dining Room is a dual-purpose, bright and breezy space with breath-taking views.

It is simply furnished to allow for flexibility in table configuration and application.

Since it can also be used as a fully-functional workspace for individuals or groups, it is kitted out with mobile phone recharging plugs, wifi and a working cove with counter and stools.

Breakfast is our speciality, however we also offer lunch and dinner menus which include a small selection of fine dishes to choose from as we’re sure you will not want to leave The Cliffside once you’ve arrived.

Cooling Down:

Cool off in the pristine swimming pool after your walk through the rocky forests.

Unwind as you lie back on a plush lounger and soak up a little sun.

Feel your tensions dissolve as the dry heat in the sauna embraces you, before experiencing the exhilarating thrill of plunging into the cool water of the pool directly afterwards.

Buy one of our braai packs with superior meat and experience a cherished pastime. Whether it’s wood, coal or gas, we’ll get it ready for you.

Take a stroll through our gardens or find a spot at one of the cosy, furnished alcoves and sit back for some quiet time. Find out who did it in one of the latest novels, or pick up the binoculars to see more closely what feathered creature is making that humming sound.

Whether it’s greeting the day by exercising in the rising sun, or sitting back with a drink to watch its glorious setting, the deck is the place to be. Just a few minutes’ walk up the hill and the views over the northern suburbs open up even more. Or, step out of the lounge onto the terrace and ease onto a lavish lounger and absorb the richness of the views over the gardens and trees over the northern suburbs.

Our Meeting Room is complete with adaptable boardroom tables and TV. The tables seat 4 to 10 people comfortably and the room is available exclusively to any Cliffside guest and their visitors.

We recommend that business travellers avoid the stress of Joburg traffic altogether and opt to have their meetings at The Cliffside instead.

A versatile space that doubles as a TV or movie-screening room, we have an extensive collection of DVDs from which to choose – every genre you could imagine and any number of old favourites.

A place to relax with family or friends for a movie. Also, the place to ‘attend’ sports events and provide unsolicited advice to referees, umpires, and players!
